The day starts with the morning meeting where everyone has a chance to exchange important information relating to the day ahead. You will then head off to your first session of the day having made sure that you have all the equipment you need. There are five one and half hour activity sessions each day and we make sure that you are trained in a wide number of activities so that we can timetable a varied day for you. You usually meet a different group of children on each session too. The visiting teachers are responsible for the children outside session time. There are breaks after each session so you have time to get a drink or a meal and recharge your energy levels. We have a team of catering staff responsible for providing three hot meals a day, our instructors don’t have any kitchen duties.

Your main role is instructing but there are some additional duties carried out by the instructor teams. On Monday and Friday when schools are leaving and new ones coming in everyone works together on a cleaning session making sure the children’s rooms are ready for the new guests. Cleaning the teacher’s rooms and the routine daily cleaning is carried out by our domestic staff.

instructor When new schools arrive you are assigned a group of children to take on an arrivals tour. You make sure that this excited group of new arrivals know their way round the centre and know the routine for reporting for meals, activity sessions etc. You will take a turn at being the duty instructor where you will be responsible for the medical room for a day, the first aid at work qualification you will have gained when you joined us will ensure that you can carry out this role with confidence. Other duty instructor tasks involve supervising the queue for meals and sleeping in one of the accommodation blocks so that you can be on call for any first aid assistance the teachers may need during the night.

On the occasional times when the centre is quiet instructor teams work together to improve the site. This can involve tasks like sweeping up the leaves, helping to build new activity bases and generally making the centre more welcoming for guests. Additional training sessions take place when the centre is quieter and there are opportunities to gain qualifications in canoe/kayak. You will be supported by a strong management team, a senior instructor heads each team of ten instructors with the Chief Instructor and Head of Centre responsible for the overall management of each centre.

What we can offer you:

As well as three hot meals a day and comfortable accommodation, working for Manor Adventure you will receive a good wage and a proper outdoor education job. During your training, and while you are working, you will have the opportunity to gain recognised National Governing Body qualifications in a variety of activities. You can also take advantage of the fact that we have a policy of developing good instructors into Senior Instructors, Chief Instructors and Heads of Centre. If you work hard, we will support and develop your adventure career.
